Reading 1

Bar 5:1-9

Jerusalem, take off your robe of mourning and misery;

put on the splendor of glory from God forever:

wrapped in the cloak of justice from God,

bear on your head the mitre

that displays the glory of the eternal name.

For God will show all the earth your splendor:

you will be named by God forever

the peace of justice, the glory of God(s worship.

Up, Jerusalem! stand upon the heights;

look to the east and see your children

gathered from the east and the west

at the word of the Holy One,

rejoicing that they are remembered by God.

Led away on foot by their enemies they left you:

but God will bring them back to you

borne aloft in glory as on royal thrones.

For God has commanded

that every lofty mountain be made low,

and that the age-old depths and gorges

be filled to level ground,

that Israel may advance secure in the glory of God.

The forests and every fragrant kind of tree

have overshadowed Israel at God(s command;

for God is leading Israel in joy

by the light of his glory,

with his mercy and justice for company.

Phil 1:4-6, 8-11

Brothers and sisters:

I pray always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,

because of your partnership for the gospel

from the first day until now.

I am confident of this,

that the one who began a good work in you

will continue to complete it

until the day of Christ Jesus.

God is my witness,

how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

And this is my prayer:

that your love may increase ever more and more

in knowledge and every kind of perception,

to discern what is of value,

so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,

filled with the fruit of righteousness

that comes through Jesus Christ

for the glory and praise of God.

Gospel

Lk 3:1-6

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar,

when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea,

and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee,

and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region

of Ituraea and Trachonitis,

and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,

the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.

John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan,

proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,

as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:

A voice of one crying out in the desert:

“Prepare the way of the Lord,

make straight his paths.

Every valley shall be filled

and every mountain and hill shall be made low.

The winding roads shall be made straight,

and the rough ways made smooth,

and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

Première lecture

Lecture du livre de Baruc (5, 1-9)

Jérusalem, quitte ta robe de tristesse et de misère, et revêts la parure de la gloire de Dieu pour toujours, enveloppe-toi dans le manteau de la justice de Dieu, mets sur ta tête le diadème de la gloire de l’Éternel. Dieu va déployer ta splendeur partout sous le ciel, car Dieu pour toujours te donnera ces noms : “Paix-de-la-justice” et “Gloire-de-la-piété envers Dieu”. Debout, Jérusalem ! tiens-toi sur la hauteur, et regarde vers l’orient : vois tes enfants rassemblés du levant au couchant par la parole du Dieu Saint ; ils se réjouissent parce que Dieu se souvient. Tu les avais vus partir à pied, emmenés par les ennemis, et Dieu te les ramène, portés en triomphe, comme sur un trône royal. Car Dieu a décidé que les hautes montagnes et les collines éternelles seraient abaissées, et que les vallées seraient comblées : ainsi la terre sera aplanie, afin qu’Israël chemine en sécurité dans la gloire de Dieu. Sur l’ordre de Dieu, les forêts et leurs arbres odoriférants donneront à Israël leur ombrage ; car Dieu conduira Israël dans la joie, à la lumière de sa gloire, lui donnant comme escorte sa miséricorde et sa justice.

Psaume 125 [126]

R.- Dieu guidera son peuple dans la joie, à la lumière de sa gloire.

Quand le Seigneur ramena les captifs à Sion,

nous étions comme en rêve !

Alors notre bouche était pleine de rires,

nous poussions des cris de joie. R.-

Alors on disait parmi les nations :

“Quelles merveilles fait pour eux le Seigneur !”

Quelles merveilles le Seigneur fit pour nous:

nous étions en grande fête ! R.-

Ramène, Seigneur, nos captifs,

comme les torrents au désert.

Qui sème dans les larmes

moissonne dans la joie. R.-

Il s’en va, il s’en va en pleurant,

il jette la semence ;

il s’en vient, il s’en vient dans la joie,

Deuxième lecture

Lecture de la lettre de saint Paul Apôtre aux Philippiens (1, 4-6. 8-11)

Frères, chaque fois que je prie pour vous tous, c’est toujours avec joie, à cause de ce que vous avez fait pour l’Évangile en communion avec moi, depuis le premier jour jusqu’à maintenant. Et puisque Dieu a si bien commencé chez vous son travail, je suis persuadé qu’il le continuera jusqu’à son achèvement au jour où viendra le Christ Jésus.

Dieu est témoin de mon attachement pour vous tous dans la tendresse du Christ Jésus. Et, dans ma prière, je demande que votre amour vous fasse progresser de plus en plus dans la connaissance vraie et la parfaite clairvoyance qui vous feront discerner ce qui est plus important. Ainsi, dans la droiture, vous marcherez sans trébucher vers le jour du Christ ; et vous aurez en plénitude la justice obtenue grâce à Jésus Christ pour la gloire et la louange de Dieu.

Évangile

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Luc (3, 1-6)

L’an quinze du règne de l’empereur Tibère, Ponce Pilate étant gouverneur de la Judée, Hérode, prince de Galilée, son frère Philippe, prince du pays d’lturée et de Traconitide, Lysanias, prince d’Abilène, les grands prêtres étant Anne et Caïphe, la parole de Dieu fut adressée dans le désert à Jean, fils de Zacharie.

Il parcourut toute la région du Jourdain ; il proclamait un baptême de conversion pour le pardon des péchés, comme il est écrit dans le livre du prophète Isaïe : À travers le désert, une voix crie : Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, aplanissez sa route. Tout ravin sera comblé, toute montagne et toute colline seront abaissées, les passages tortueux deviendront droits, les routes déformées seront aplanies; et tout homme verra le salut de Dieu.

1. Lesung Bar 5, 1-9

Lesung aus dem Buch Baruch

Leg ab, Jerusalem, das Kleid deiner Trauer und deines Elends, und bekleide dich mit dem Schmuck der Herrlichkeit, die Gott dir für immer verleiht.

Leg den Mantel der göttlichen Gerechtigkeit an; setz dir die Krone der Herrlichkeit des Ewigen aufs Haupt!

Denn Gott will deinen Glanz dem ganzen Erdkreis unter dem Himmel zeigen.

Gott gibt dir für immer den Namen: Friede der Gerechtigkeit und Herrlichkeit der Gottesfurcht.

Steh auf, Jerusalem, und steig auf die Höhe! Schau nach Osten, und sieh deine Kinder: Vom Untergang der Sonne bis zum Aufgang hat das Wort des Heiligen sie gesammelt. Sie freuen sich, dass Gott an sie gedacht hat.

Denn zu Fuß zogen sie fort von dir, weggetrieben von Feinden; Gott aber bringt sie heim zu dir, ehrenvoll getragen wie in einer königlichen Sänfte.

Denn Gott hat befohlen: Senken sollen sich alle hohen Berge und die ewigen Hügel, und heben sollen sich die Täler zu ebenem Land, so dass Israel unter der Herrlichkeit Gottes sicher dahinziehen kann.

Wälder und duftende Bäume aller Art spenden Israel Schatten auf Gottes Geheiß.

Denn Gott führt Israel heim in Freude, im Licht seiner Herrlichkeit; Erbarmen und Gerechtigkeit kommen von ihm.

R.- Großes hat der Herr an uns getan. Da waren wir fröhlich.

Als der Herr das Los der Gefangenschaft Zions wendete,

2. Lesung Phil 1, 4-6.8-11

Lesung aus dem Brief des Apostels Paulus an die Philipper

Immer, wenn ich für euch alle bete, tue ich es mit Freude und danke Gott dafür, dass ihr euch gemeinsam für das Evangelium eingesetzt habt vom ersten Tag an bis jetzt.

Ich vertraue darauf, dass er, der bei euch das gute Werk begonnen hat, es auch vollenden wird bis zum Tag Christi Jesu.

Gott ist mein Zeuge, wie ich mich nach euch allen sehne mit der herzlichen Liebe, die Christus Jesus zu euch hat.

Und ich bete darum, dass eure Liebe immer noch reicher an Einsicht und Verständnis wird, damit ihr beurteilen könnt, worauf es ankommt. Dann werdet ihr rein und ohne Tadel sein für den Tag Christi,reich an der Frucht der Gerechtigkeit, die Jesus Christus gibt, zur Ehre und zum Lob Gottes.

Evangelium Lk 3, 1-6

Aus dem heiligen Evangelium nach Lukas

Es war im fünfzehnten Jahr der Regierung des Kaisers Tiberius; Pontius Pilatus war Statthalter von Judäa, Herodes Tetrarch von Galiläa, sein Bruder Philippus Tetrarch von Ituräa und Trachonitis, Lysanias Tetrarch von Abilene;

Hohepriester waren Hannas und Kajaphas. Da erging in der Wüste das Wort Gottes an Johannes, den Sohn des Zacharias.

Und er zog in die Gegend am Jordan und verkündigte dort überall Umkehr und Taufe zur Vergebung der Sünden.

(So erfüllte sich,) was im Buch der Reden des Propheten Jesaja steht: Eine Stimme ruft in der Wüste: Bereitet dem Herrn den Weg! Ebnet ihm die Straßen!

Jede Schlucht soll aufgefüllt werden, jeder Berg und Hügel sich senken. Was krumm ist, soll gerade werden, was uneben ist, soll zum ebenen Weg werden.

Und alle Menschen werden das Heil sehen, das von Gott kommt.
