FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Reading 1

Acts 13:14, 43-52

Paul and Barnabas continued on from Perga

and reached Antioch in Pisidia.

On the sabbath they entered the synagogue and took their seats.

Many Jews and worshipers who were converts to Judaism

followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them

and urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God.

On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered

to hear the word of the Lord.

When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy

and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said.

Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said,

“It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first,

but since you reject it

and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life,

we now turn to the Gentiles.

For so the Lord has commanded us,

I have made you a light to the Gentiles,

that you may be an instrument of salvation

to the ends of the earth.”

The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this

and glorified the word of the Lord.

All who were destined for eternal life came to believe,

and the word of the Lord continued to spread

through the whole region.

The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers

and the leading men of the city,

stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas,

and expelled them from their territory.

So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them,

and went to Iconium.

The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Reading II

Rev 7:9, 14b-17

I, John, had a vision of a great multitude,

which no one could count,

from every nation, race, people, and tongue.

They stood before the throne and before the Lamb,

wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.

Then one of the elders said to me,

“These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress;

they have washed their robes

and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

“For this reason they stand before God’s throne

and worship him day and night in his temple.

The one who sits on the throne will shelter them.

They will not hunger or thirst anymore,

nor will the sun or any heat strike them.

For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne

will shepherd them

and lead them to springs of life-giving water,

and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Gospel

Jn 10:27-30

Jesus said:

“My sheep hear my voice;

I know them, and they follow me.

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.

No one can take them out of my hand.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,

and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.

The Father and I are one.”

Première Lecture

Lecture du livre des Actes des Apôtres (13, 14. 43-52)

Paul et Barnabé étaient arrivés à Antioche de Pisidie. Le jour du sabbat, ils entrèrent à la synagogue. Quand l’assemblée se sépara, beaucoup de Juifs et de convertis au judaïsme les suivirent. Paul et Barnabé parlant avec eux, les encourageaient à rester fidèles à la grâce de Dieu. Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville se rassembla pour entendre la parole du Seigneur. Quand les Juifs virent tant de monde, ils furent remplis de fureur ; ils repoussaient les affirmations de Paul avec des injures. Paul et Barnabé leur déclarèrent avec assurance : “C’est à vous d’abord qu’il fallait adresser la parole de Dieu. Puisque vous la rejetez et que vous-mêmes ne vous jugez pas dignes de la vie éternelle, eh bien ! nous nous tournons vers les païens. C’est le commandement que le Seigneur nous a donné : J’ai fait de toi la lumière des nations pour que, grâce à toi, le salut parvienne jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre.” En entendant cela, les païens étaient dans la joie et rendaient gloire à la parole du Seigneur ; tous ceux que Dieu avait préparés pour la vie éternelle devinrent croyants. Ainsi, la parole du Seigneur se répandait dans toute la région. Mais les Juifs entraînèrent les dames influentes converties au judaïsme, ainsi que les notables de la ville ; ils provoquèrent des poursuites contre Paul et Barnabé, et les expulsèrent de leur territoire. Ceux-ci secouèrent contre eux la poussière de leurs pieds et se rendirent à Iconium, tandis que les disciples étaient pleins de joie dans l’Esprit Saint.

R.- Tu nous guideras aux sentiers de vie, tu nous ouvriras ta maison, Seigneur.

Acclamez le Seigneur, terre entière,

servez le Seigneur, dans l’allégresse,

venez à lui avec des chants de joie! R.-

il nous a faits, et nous sommes à lui,

Lecture de l’Apocalypse de saint Jean (7, 9. 14b-17)

Moi, Jean, j’ai vu une foule immense, que nul ne pouvait dénombrer, une foule de toutes nations, races, peuples et langues. Ils se tenaient debout devant le Trône et devant l’Agneau, en vêtements blancs, avec des palmes à la main. L’un des Anciens me dit : “Ils viennent de la grande épreuve, ils ont lavé leurs vêtements, ils les ont purifiés dans le sang de l’Agneau. C’est pourquoi ils se tiennent devant le trône de Dieu, et le servent jour et nuit dans son temple. Celui qui siège sur le Trône habitera parmi eux. Ils n’auront plus faim, ils n’auront plus soif, la brûlure du soleil ne les accablera plus, puisque l’Agneau qui se tient au milieu du Trône sera leur Pasteur pour les conduire vers les eaux de la source de vie. Et Dieu essuiera toute larme de leurs yeux.”

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean (10, 27-30)

Jésus avait dit aux Juifs : “Je suis le Bon Pasteur (le vrai berger).” Il leur dit encore : “Mes brebis écoutent ma voix ; moi je les connais, et elles me suivent. Je leur donne la vie éternelle : jamais elles ne périront, personne ne les arrachera de ma main. Mon Père, qui me les a données, est plus grand que tout, et personne ne peut rien arracher de la main du Père. Le Père et moi, nous sommes Un.”

1. Lesung Apg 13, 14.43b-52

Lesung aus der Apostelgeschichte

Sie selbst wanderten von Perge weiter und kamen nach Antiochia in Pisidien. Dort gingen sie am Sabbat in die Synagoge und setzten sich.

Es schlossen sich viele Juden und fromme Proselyten Paulus und Barnabas an. Diese redeten mit ihnen und ermahnten sie, der Gnade Gottes treu zu bleiben.

Am folgenden Sabbat versammelte sich fast die ganze Stadt, um das Wort des Herrn zu hören.

Als die Juden die Scharen sahen, wurden sie eifersüchtig, widersprachen den Worten des Paulus und stießen Lästerungen aus.

Paulus und Barnabas aber erklärten freimütig: Euch musste das Wort Gottes zuerst verkündet werden. Da ihr es aber zurückstoßt und euch des ewigen Lebens unwürdig zeigt, wenden wir uns jetzt an die Heiden.

Denn so hat uns der Herr aufgetragen: Ich habe dich zum Licht für die Völker gemacht, bis an das Ende der Erde sollst du das Heil sein.

Als die Heiden das hörten, freuten sie sich und priesen das Wort des Herrn; und alle wurden gläubig, die für das ewige Leben bestimmt waren.

Das Wort des Herrn aber verbreitete sich in der ganzen Gegend.

Die Juden jedoch hetzten die vornehmen gottesfürchtigen Frauen und die Ersten der Stadt auf, veranlassten eine Verfolgung gegen Paulus und Barnabas und vertrieben sie aus ihrem Gebiet.

Diese aber schüttelten gegen sie den Staub von ihren Füßen und zogen nach Ikonion. Und die Jünger waren voll Freude und erfüllt vom Heiligen Geist.

2. Lesung Offb 7, 9.14b-17

Lesung aus der Offenbarung des Johannes

Danach sah ich: eine große Schar aus allen Nationen und Stämmen, Völkern und Sprachen; niemand konnte sie zählen. Sie standen in weißen Gewändern vor dem Thron und vor dem Lamm und trugen Palmzweige in den Händen.

Und er sagte zu mir: Es sind die, die aus der großen Bedrängnis kommen; sie haben ihre Gewänder gewaschen und im Blut des Lammes weiß gemacht.

Deshalb stehen sie vor dem Thron Gottes und dienen ihm bei Tag und Nacht in seinem Tempel; und der, der auf dem Thron sitzt, wird sein Zelt über ihnen aufschlagen.

Sie werden keinen Hunger und keinen Durst mehr leiden, und weder Sonnenglut noch irgendeine sengende Hitze wird auf ihnen lasten.

Denn das Lamm in der Mitte vor dem Thron wird sie weiden und zu den Quellen führen, aus denen das Wasser des Lebens strömt, und Gott wird alle Tränen von ihren Augen abwischen.

Aus dem heiligen Evangelium nach Johannes

Meine Schafe hören auf meine Stimme; ich kenne sie, und sie folgen mir.

Ich gebe ihnen ewiges Leben. Sie werden niemals zugrunde gehen, und niemand wird sie meiner Hand entreißen.

Mein Vater, der sie mir gab, ist größer als alle, und niemand kann sie der Hand meines Vaters entreißen.

Ich und der Vater sind eins.
