FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Reading 1

Acts 14:21-27

After Paul and Barnabas had proclaimed the good news

to that city

and made a considerable number of disciples,

they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch.

They strengthened the spirits of the disciples

and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying,

“It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships

to enter the kingdom of God.”

They appointed elders for them in each church and,

with prayer and fasting, commended them to the Lord

in whom they had put their faith.

Then they traveled through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.

After proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia.

From there they sailed to Antioch,

where they had been commended to the grace of God

for the work they had now accomplished.

And when they arrived, they called the church together

and reported what God had done with them

and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.

Reading II

Rev 21:1-5a

Then I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth.

The former heaven and the former earth had passed away,

and the sea was no more.

I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,

coming down out of heaven from God,

prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race.

He will dwell with them and they will be his people

and God himself will always be with them as their God.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes,

and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain,

for the old order has passed away.”

The One who sat on the throne said,

“Behold, I make all things new.”

Gospel

Jn 13:31-33a, 34-35

When Judas had left them, Jesus said,

“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

If God is glorified in him,

God will also glorify him in himself,

and God will glorify him at once.

My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.

I give you a new commandment: love one another.

As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.

This is how all will know that you are my disciples,

if you have love for one another.”

Première Lecture

Lecture du livre des Actes des Apôtres (14, 21b-27)

Paul et Barnabé, revenus à Iconium et à Antioche de Pisidie, affermissaient le courage des disciples ; ils les exhortaient à persévérer dans la foi, en disant : “Il nous faut passer par bien des épreuves pour entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.” Ils désignèrent des Anciens pour chacune de leurs Églises et, après avoir prié et jeûné, ils confièrent au Seigneur ces hommes qui avaient mis leur foi en lui. Ils traversèrent la Pisidie et se rendirent en Pamphylie. Après avoir annoncé la parole aux gens de Pergé, ils descendirent vers Attalia, et prirent le bateau jusqu’à Antioche de Syrie, d’où ils étaient partis ; c’est là qu’ils avaient été remis à la grâce de Dieu pour l’œuvre qu’ils venaient maintenant d’accomplir. À leur arrivée, ayant réuni les membres de l’Église, ils leur racontaient tout ce que Dieu avait fait avec eux, et comment il avait ouvert aux nations païennes la porte de la foi.

R.- Béni sois-tu à jamais, Seigneur, Dieu de l’univers !

Le Seigneur est tendresse et pitié,

lent à la colère et plein d’amour ;

la bonté du Seigneur est pour tous,

sa tendresse pour toutes ses œuvres. R.-

Que tes œuvres, Seigneur, te rendent grâce,

et que tes fidèles te bénissent !

Ils diront la gloire de ton règne,

ils parleront de tes exploits. R.-

Deuxième Lecture

Lecture de l’Apocalypse de saint Jean (21, 1-5a)

Moi Jean, j’ai vu un ciel nouveau et une terre nouvelle, car le premier ciel et la première terre avaient disparu, et il n’y avait plus de mer. Et j’ai vu descendre du ciel, d’auprès de Dieu, la cité sainte, la Jérusalem nouvelle, toute prête, comme une fiancée parée pour son époux. Et j’ai entendu la voix puissante qui venait du Trône divin, elle disait : “Voici la demeure de Dieu avec les hommes ; il demeurera avec eux, et ils seront son peuple, Dieu lui-même sera avec eux. Il essuiera toute larme de leurs yeux, et la mort n’existera plus ; et il n’y aura plus de pleurs, de cris, ni de tristesse ; car la première création aura disparu.” Alors celui qui siégeait sur le Trône déclara : “Voici que je fais toutes choses nouvelles.”

Évangile de Jésus Christ selon saint Jean (13, 31-33a. 34-35)

Au cours du dernier repas que Jésus prenait avec ses disciples, quand Judas fut sorti, Jésus déclara : “Maintenant le Fils de l’homme est glorifié, et Dieu est glorifié en lui. Si Dieu est glorifié en lui, Dieu en retour lui donnera sa propre gloire, et il la lui donnera bientôt.

Mes petits enfants, je suis encore avec vous, mais pour peu de temps. Je vous donne un commandement nouveau : c’est de vous aimer les uns les autres. Comme je vous ai aimés, vous aussi, aimez-vous les uns les autres. Ce qui montrera à tous les hommes que vous êtes mes disciples, c’est l’amour que vous aurez les uns pour les autres.”

1. Lesung Apg 14, 21b-27

Lesung aus der Apostelgeschichte

Paulus und Barnabas kehrten nach Lystra, Ikonion und Antiochia zurück.

Sie sprachen den Jüngern Mut zu und ermahnten sie, treu am Glauben festzuhalten; sie sagten: Durch viele Drangsale müssen wir in das Reich Gottes gelangen.

n jeder Gemeinde bestellten sie durch Handauflegung Älteste und empfahlen sie mit Gebet und Fasten dem Herrn, an den sie nun glaubten.

Nachdem sie durch Pisidien gezogen waren, kamen sie nach Pamphylien, verkündeten in Perge das Wort und gingen dann nach Attalia hinab.

Von dort fuhren sie mit dem Schiff nach Antiochia, wo man sie für das Werk, das sie nun vollbracht hatten, der Gnade Gottes empfohlen hatte.

Als sie dort angekommen waren, riefen sie die Gemeinde zusammen und berichteten alles, was Gott mit ihnen zusammen getan und dass er den Heiden die Tür zum Glauben geöffnet hatte.

2. Lesung Offb 21, 1-5a

Lesung aus der Offenbarung des Johannes

Dann sah ich einen neuen Himmel und eine neue Erde; denn der erste Himmel und die erste Erde sind vergangen, auch das Meer ist nicht mehr.

Ich sah die heilige Stadt, das neue Jerusalem, von Gott her aus dem Himmel herabkommen; sie war bereit wie eine Braut, die sich für ihren Mann geschmückt hat.

Da hörte ich eine laute Stimme vom Thron her rufen: Seht, die Wohnung Gottes unter den Menschen! Er wird in ihrer Mitte wohnen, und sie werden sein Volk sein; und er, Gott, wird bei ihnen sein.

Er wird alle Tränen von ihren Augen abwischen : Der Tod wird nicht mehr sein, keine Trauer, keine Klage, keine Mühsal. Denn was früher war, ist vergangen.

Er, der auf dem Thron saß, sprach: Seht, ich mache alles neu.

Evangelium Joh 13, 31-33a.34-35

Aus dem heiligen Evangelium nach Johannes

Als Judas hinausgegangen war, sagte Jesus: Jetzt ist der Menschensohn verherrlicht, und Gott ist in ihm verherrlicht.

Wenn Gott in ihm verherrlicht ist, wird auch Gott ihn in sich verherrlichen, und er wird ihn bald verherrlichen.

Meine Kinder, ich bin nur noch kurze Zeit bei euch.

Ein neues Gebot gebe ich euch: Liebt einander! Wie ich euch geliebt habe, so sollt auch ihr einander lieben.

Daran werden alle erkennen, dass ihr meine Jünger seid: wenn ihr einander liebt.
